Interacting with a Kodiak-equipped driverless commercial motor vehicle

Kodiak's First Responder Interaction Plan provides first responders the information needed to safely interact with a Kodiak-equipped driverless commercial motor vehicle (CMV). Kodiak is committed to enhancing safety on our roadways, and this commitment extends to the first responders who keep those roadways safe. As we continue to scale our operations, we will share updates and opportunities for training.

First steps on scene

If you're responding to a stopped Kodiak-equipped CMV, follow these steps. The truck can be identified by the Kodiak-branded sensor pods mounted where the side mirrors would normally be.

Contacting the Kodiak Command Center

The complete FRIP covers vehicle identification, emergency response, collision procedures, towing, and more. A physical copy is also in the document box on the rear passenger side of the cab.

Finding documents on the truck

If you need to access vehicle documents or manually immobilize the truck, here's where to find what you need. The Command Center can guide you through each step remotely.

The truck is immobilized when the amber warning beacons are flashing. If you need to manually disable it, open the box labeled "Clear to Launch Switch" on the driver's side of the cab and flip the switch to the OFF position. The autonomy system cannot re-engage without Command Center authorization.
