Driverless platforms launched. Over-the-road milestones reached. Military breakthroughs made. Revisit Kodiak's biggest year yet

2024: Kodiak’s Biggest Year Yet

We accomplished a lot in 2024, setting new standards for autonomous driving and enhancing our position as the market leader in driverless commercial vehicles. Here’s the highlight reel:

1. Launching Two Driverless Platforms

In 2024, we achieved an industry-first by completing driverless deliveries in the Permian Basin. Partnering with Atlas Energy Solutions, we autonomously hauled frac sand on private roads—a groundbreaking milestone that demonstrates the scalability of our technology.

Later, we unveiled the Kodiak Driver-equipped RIPSAW M3, a tracked military vehicle developed with Textron Systems. Designed for reconnaissance, surveillance, and tactical missions, the M3 showcases how our dual-use technology advances mission readiness while enhancing soldier safety.

2. Expanding Over-the-Road Trucking Leadership

Over the course of 2024, we expanded our over-the-road trucking business, delivering critical freight for our partners across the Southeast.

Completing 900 autonomous deliveries for Martin Brower showcased the potential of autonomous trucks to safely and efficiently handle time-critical refrigerated freight, an ideal use case for our technology.

Working with J.B. Hunt and Bridgestone, we surpassed 100,000 miles on long-haul routes with 100% on-time performance, minimizing empty miles and boosting efficiency.

To scale operations, we launched our Houston truckport with Ryder, a key facility that paves the way for future driverless trucking at scale.

Continued collaborations with industry leaders such as Werner, IKEA, CR England, Tyson, Loadsmith, and Maersk, in addition to JB Hunt and Martin Brower, we moved thousands of loads while integrating autonomous technology into their operations. These collaborations have brought the trucking industry closer to realizing a fully autonomous future.

We launched the Kodiak Industry Advisory Council, uniting leaders from Walmart, UPS, Werner, and more. Their insights are helping us build trust in autonomous technology while guiding the future of trucking.

3. Pushing the Boundaries of AI

Advancements in the Kodiak Driver’s AI-based Vision-Language Models (VLMs) enhanced its ability to predict and respond to never-before-seen scenarios. From emergency vehicles to unexpected hazards, VLMs enable us to navigate edge cases with human-like precision.

4. Leading Military Autonomy

The Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV) program is reshaping military ground operations, and the Kodiak Driver is leading the charge. In two demonstrations, we proved our AI technology could handle everything from rugged trails to rocky fields to snow—without any pre-built maps.

5. Tireless Effort from Every Kodiaker

2024’s achievements are a testament to the tireless dedication of every member of the Kodiak team as well as our great customers, partners and investors. From engineering breakthroughs and hardware innovations to business development and commercialization efforts, every role contributed to our success. Legal provided essential guidance, while operations teams—including safety drivers and technicians—kept our fleet running smoothly, and recruiting brought in the best talent to drive our mission forward. Together, we conducted many design reviews, built numerous autonomous vehicles across multiple vehicle types, ran countless simulations, and logged countless hours in collaborative, cross team dedication—efforts that drive our industry leadership.

We also completed two critical safety cases, enabling us to launch both driverless deliveries in the Permian Basin with Atlas Energy Solutions and the RIPSAW M3 with Textron Systems. These efforts involved rigorous testing, in-depth analysis, and comprehensive documentation, engaging every team at Kodiak. Safety cases serve as the foundation for autonomous deployment, proving the Kodiak Driver’s readiness for deployment and reinforcing our leadership in safety.

6. Elevating Industry Safety Standards

Safety has always been at the core of everything we do, and that does not stop at Kodiak but extends to the wider industry. Through our Enhanced Inspections pilot, we conducted over 1,000 inspections and shared our aggregate results publicly, ensuring Kodiak-equipped trucks set new standards for maintenance and reliability. This proactive initiative helped our partners enhance trailer upkeep, raising safety benchmarks across the industry.

What’s Next?

2025 is going to be even bigger. In 2025, we will deliver more driverless trucks to our partners as we scale our driverless service, including continuous 24/7 operations, expand driverless defense capabilities, and prepare for driverless highway operations. At the same time, we’ll deepen collaborations with our over-the-road partners, further integrating autonomous solutions to transform freight logistics and drive innovation across the trucking industry.

Thank you to our partners, team, and stakeholders who made 2024 possible. Together, we’re shaping the future of autonomy—on highways, in the field, and beyond.
